Wells

Water has become a scarce resource in the rural areas. The streams that existed 10-15 years ago have totally dried out. In the past the Roma population used to do all their baptisms in these rivers – not anymore.

We have built during the years many wells in the Roma village of Slobozia. Probably around 10 to 15, including those in the other Roma areas where we worked. In those days wells were necessary for a family’s daily life, and it was shared with the neighboring  families. Unfortunately, because of the drought, the water reserves now are so small, that the water is enough just in the mornings, and it is not potable anymore.
